Manaiakalani Film Festival 2012 School Is Cool

In Term 2 we were learning a lot about movie magic, and how movies can influence our world. We created many movies. We started by brainstorming key messages we could include in our movies.

We also made a movie that explains how to plant kumara. It was really fun to do. We created this movie to inspire people to learn how to grow their own kumara.

Our movie for The Manaiakalani Film Festival is called 'School Is Cool'. We made it to share all of the cool learning and fun that we have at school.

Our movie was also shown at the Tamaki Primary Academy Awards. We created a PMI about Movie Magic and shared what we liked, what was challenging and interesting.

Tiere - Guy Fawkes

Guy Fawkes

As the moon kisses goodbye to the sun,I could see a tsunami of fireworks forming a colourful rainbow in the sky.I could see smiles on little kids faces playing with sparkle sparks.I can see a festival of colour exploding through the air.

I felt excited when the fireworks were ready to explode through the sky like a shooting star.I felt motivated as the fireworks sizzled through a new world where there are sparks of joy.As I gazed up at the sky wandering what it would be like to be a firework.

Pew,Pew I could hear the fireworks exploding air wanting to meet the stars.I could hear a crackling sound coming from the BBQ grill.I could hear my my stomach rubling and my mouth dribling as I stared at the BBQ.I could taste the ash of the smoke from the fireworks I could taste fresh breezy air.As I fell asleep,I was dreaming about being a firework.

My Holiday Description

Holiday Description
Visiting the caves in Auckland, near the mountains, was one of the things I did in the school holidays. We had to take torches and wear suitable shoes so we couldn’t get cut from the glass that was smashed on the ground.I went with all of my family so that we could discover what happened while they were getting ready for war.We discovered guns and the gunpowder they used in the war and one of the places where they practised was a place where they practice shooting their enemy to get better at aiming.

On saturday morning my big brother Kamaka broke his leg from rugby. There was a small crack on his bone so then he could not walk. When we went to the doctors to get the cast they offered us some crutches and my dad said he had some at my granddads. We went to my grandad’s house and we took the crutches back home for my brother. I had an awesome day and dinner was delicious.

The End.

  • What is your role in practicing sustainability for a balanced future - at home, at school, in my community?

Sustainability helps the plants and humans to live well and to grow and have energy.Keeping the plants alive will help the environment and the compost will help the worms produce nutrients for the plants so they can be healthy. To be sustainable at home I need to  recycle things like cans, plastic and cupboard. At school I can be sustainable by looking after our school Kai Garden by taking out the weeds and watering it.My role in the community to be sustainable is to pick up rubbish so that our environment can be clean and green.

What If Key

What if all food was for free? Write some advantages and disadvantages.

If food was free then homeless people would not be homeless and they would eat lots of food and they would be happy. People would be fat and they wouldn’t like to be fat so they exercise and eat healthy food. When they get very healthy they can eat some food that is not healthy then exercise a little and then you won’t have to be fat all the time.

The Miracle Fruit

WALT: write a narrative using the T.O.P.S structure.

One bright sunny morning in the Cook Islands when the sun was moving across the sky there were two young attractive girls named Cloe and Jade their eyes are like a sparkly diamond and their hair is long and black like the dark night and they had a blue rose in their hair. They were selling fruit at the beach they could see beautiful palm trees and golden pure sand and the beautiful blue ocean and the silver clouds.Cloe and Jade were very thrilled to sell the fruit they couldn't wait to show their mum and dad how much money they got from the people who paid for the fruit. They like to swim and they love their family and they get paranoid easily so don’t mess with them because they are identical twins.

Then a tourist came and shrieked with anger,’’Eww that’s rotten fruit’’ then he left with a smirk because he was displeased with the girls. Five hours later they were paranoid because there were no one to buy their fruit so  they decided to go home and forget about everything that happened but they did not  go home just yet so they went swimming and chucked away the rotten fruit. The beach was  freezing so then they got out and they went home.

On their way home they went to a friends house when they knocked on the door there was no answer but then they saw fruit trees then they decided to grab some and take them to the market and it was a miracle because they became rich and gave it to the poor because they felt sorry for them so then they halved it and gave it to the parents and the other half for the poor and they were very happy.

Minus
What challenges did you have with this unit?
  • Waiting for our turn to film because there was only one flip-cam and a tripod.
  • We had some groups using the same filming location so we had to wait for them to finish filming and sometimes it ment we couldn't film because they were taking too long. For example the staff room, corridor, reading room etc.
  • We couldn’t film sometimes as some students were away and the weather was not too good as well.
  • Memorising our lines for our scripts.

  • Adding sound effects and music to our movies.
  • Learning how professional film makers make movies and trying to develop their skills throughout the process of our film making experience.

  •
  • Solution
How could we improve on this unit next time.
  •   More flip-cams and tripods.
  • Have the Imovie programme on our netbooks so that we could edit our movies instead of waiting for a group to finish.

The Haunted House On Maple Street

Seventy years ago there lived three enchanted sisters.Their lovely names were Alexis, Amber and Christina. They smelled like sweet roses. They were beautiful like nature. They had moved to Maple Street in New Zealand .One night Alexis woke up, she was thirsty. She looked around and saw a ghost! The ghost tried to frighten her. The ghost cried,’’In five more days ghosts will push this house so that the dead ghosts will be ALIVE!!!’’.When the ghost had finished talking, Alexis grabbed the vacuum and vacuumed up the ghost.

Later on that week, there was ghosts flying around the house. They were scaring Alexis so she went outside to see what was going on. She was scared going out at night time. She could hear a sudden noise it was coming from under the house. She was horribly scared, she ran into the house to call her family. They were too late to get out but not Alexis. She was frightened but then she was sad for along time.

She heard a sudden noise coming from the sky then she yelled,’’HOME!!!” She could see it floating down to the ground. She found her family and she was glad to have her family back. The ghosts had tried to take her family away from her.

After a few months they happily went to Australia to live there forever where there are no ghosts but lots of Kangaroos.
